An Interview or Two, oops THREE!
2018.03.10
I had the pleasure and great fun of being interviewed for CBC's North by Northwest and the Early Edition, and for SiriusXM's Canada Now, in preparation for my show on International Womens Day as a performer for Wingpsan Dis/Arts initiative!
Interviewing with Sheryl McKay for North by Northwest was such a pleasure. It was my first interview of the bunch and she made me feel so comfortable and at home. We chatted about my history with music, my disability, and there's even a small clip of Chances
For CBC"s Early Edition, you can find a wonderful interview with both Christa Couture and I, hosted by Margaret Ghallager. If you want the cheat code, it's 1:20:30 ;)
Willowlux Album Release Party - a phenomenal show.
2017.06.25
Last night I had the pleasure of watching Willolux perform live for her album release party.
I first met Kristina Emmott, the voice of Willolux, at an open mic night where we were both green as newly sprung fronds. Already she had exceptional talent. Something of a spark that shone through the nerves of an exciting beginning. Now, her dedication, hard work, drive, and no small measure of natural and hard earned talent, have developed her not only into an amazing woman, but an artist who's music touches both the ears and the heart in the most magical way.
I have always been impressed with her songwriting skills. I would easily put her up with the ranks of Sara Bareilles and Regina Spektor. She has an ability to find words that bring a depth and dimension to the stories she tells, and a melodic method that lulls the listener into a contented trance. Her music has range that not all artists can achieve, each song unique and beautiful in its own right.
I strongly encourage you to download her album, or give it a listen on Spotify.
And, if you're given the chance, watch Willolux live. Somehow the already incredible works become even brighter, even more beautiful. Her voice has a subtle, unassuming purity to it. The melodic memories are still singing in my head.
And lets not forget the debut of the Rain Coast Choir! Lead by Joline Baylis, this talented crew delighted with delicious harmonies, charming covers, and supported a couple epic tunes of Willolux's. Amazing!
Last night was a tremendous success and I cannot wait for the next Willolux show.
Congratulations Kristina. Although there was no doubt last night was going to be amazing, you blew us all away. You are an inspiration to me, and I'm proud to know you.

Please join me in celebrating my beautiful friend and musical colleague's album release party! Willolux is an amazing songwriter and her music is both charming and almost haunting in its ability to strike chords of connection with its audience. This is sure to be a phenomenal show! I promise you it will be worth it!
Kristina Shelden joins VAMS' Board of Directors
2017.05.04
On November 4th, 2016 I was asked to join the Board of Directors for the Vancouver Adapted Music Society. I couldn't be more thrilled! As a person with a disability, and a long time performer for VAMS, I feel like this is a perfect fit for me. Already I feel like I've been able to positively influence the forward momentum VAMS has been gaining. I can't wait to continue working with this incredible organization. They help peoples with disabilities access the resources they need to become active in the music community. From an adapted studio to full blown performances with incredible artists such as Chin Injeti and Dan Moxon of Bend Sinister, this organization creates musical opportunities that helps where one might otherwise feel helpless. I myself am performing again thanks to VAMS!
